Abstract Keywords: Generative AI in Clinical Workflow: Ambient Listening, Chart Summarization, Automated Response with LLM, Clinician Well-Being, Outcomes Improvement and Equity
Primary Track: Advancing Wellness for Providers and Community with Consideration of Human Factors
Ambient documentation AI is being adopted rapidly, but published evaluations show mixed efficiency gains and persistent uncertainty about financial ROI. For safety-net health systems, these uncertainties matter more: thin margins, workforce instability, high patient complexity, language diversity, and infrastructure constraints can change both the value proposition (e.g., burnout/retention and access) and the risk profile (e.g., documentation errors, workflow misfit, and equity harms). This 60-minute panel uses ambient AI scribes as a practical case study to surface what value should mean in safety-net settings and what governance is required when vendor performance claims may not reflect local populations. Panelists from two safety-net systems will share lessons from multi-specialty implementations, focusing on pragmatic evaluation when resources are limited (EHR user efficiency measures and clinician experience) and safety-net–specific risk scenarios, including interpreter/multi-speaker visits and dialect-diverse speech, informed by known disparities in speech recognition and concerns about automation bias. The session is designed for engaged dialogue: the latter half will be driven by attendee questions and peer exchange.
