Usability testing is critical for enhancing the quality of electronic health records (EHRs) and clinical decision support (CDS) systems, which are often hindered by poor design, contributing to clinician burnout and patient safety issues. This workshop explores pragmatic usability testing approaches, emphasizing guerilla in-situ methods. Participants will gain insights into the role of usability testing in CDS design and the practical benefits and challenges associated with guerilla in-situ techniques compared to traditional methods. The workshop will guide attendees on adapting traditional usability testing to real-world clinical settings and provide hands-on experience in conducting guerilla in-situ usability tests. Furthermore, attendees will learn how to establish and scale a robust usability program within their organizations.
