LU13: ACMI Perspectives in AI: Lessons from the Past, Directions for the Future
Presentation Type: Level Up Session
Description
Artificial intelligence in health and biomedicine has experienced waves of innovation, promise, and challenge across decades. This ACMI session brings together Fellows who have lived through these cycles to share historical insights and perspectives on how AI has evolved—and where it is heading next. The recent passing of ACMI Fellow Dr. Atul Butte and his enduring focus on harnessing AI, informatics, and data science to improve health outcomes and confront disease both at scale and with precision reminds us of our responsibility to carry forward innovation in health and medicine that unites human insight with data-driven discovery. Speakers will reflect on the evolution of AI in medicine and science sharing perspectives on how it continues to shape informatics, the health sciences and the broader digital future of healthcare. Attendees will gain a deeper appreciation for the continuity of ideas in AI, and how past lessons can guide today’s transformative opportunities for improving patient health and population well-being. In memory of our colleague and friend Atul Butte, MD, PhD, FACMI.
