Recent NIH policy changes—including expanded data sharing requirements, strengthened public access rules, and increased support for preprints—are transforming the way research is prepared, reviewed, and published. Additionally, government comments and public discussion around misinformation, conflicts of interest and competing viewpoints and have raised new concerns of possible federal or political interference in the submission or publication scientific research. These shifts bring both opportunities and challenges for journals, authors, reviewers, and institutions. In this session, the Editors-in-Chief of JAMIA, JAMIA Open, and Applied Clinical Informatics will share first-hand insights into how leading informatics journals are adapting editorial workflows, ensuring compliance, balancing sustainability, and supporting equity in scientific communication. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how these policies affect submission and dissemination practices, and what practical steps can support compliance while preserving quality and accessibility.
