Multifaceted Approaches to Building the Public Health Informatics Workforce for Supporting Data Modernization in Public Health
2025 Annual Symposium On Demand
Presentation Time: 09:45 AM - 11:00 AM
Abstract Keywords: Public Health, Data Modernization, Workforce Development
Working Group: Public Health Informatics Working Group
Primary Track: Applications
Programmatic Theme: Public Health Informatics
National reports from reputed public health organizations and the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI) advocate for a robust public health informatics (PHI) workforce as one of the key strategies to strengthen the U.S. public health information infrastructure. To implement the numerous projects envisioned by the Data Modernization Initiative (DMI) and the Public Health Data Strategy from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), having staff with PHI skills at all levels of the public health enterprise is crucial. Given growing demands for an informatics-savvy workforce, multipronged approaches are required. This panel will bring together PHI experts from academia, federal and state public health, and industry to describe and discuss various efforts aimed at strengthening the PHI workforce. Because informatics education is of interest to the AMIA audience, this panel will have broad appeal to Symposium attendees.
