The future of AI-enabled health systems should be designed with human-centered principles in mind. Innovative methodologies in design thinking, including speculative design, can be leveraged to engage stakeholders in creative, thoughtful future-forward health system design. Speculative design encourages participants to imagine alternative futures by exploring possible, probable, and preferable scenarios. This workshop leverages novel AI text and visual software (e.g., ChatGPT, MidJourney, and Sora) to assist healthcare stakeholders in design thinking activities that envision the future of AI-enabled care delivery across three unique scenarios: ambient documentation technology, the "smart" in-patient suite, and AI-enabled wearable technology. Participants will collaborate in interactive design exercises exploring how AI can enhance or challenge care delivery, and develop creative solutions for the AI-enhanced human-centered healthcare system of the future.
