Presentation Type: Panel
Navigating the Future of Healthcare Documentation: Opportunities and Challenges of Implementing AI Scribes
Presentation Time: 03:30 PM - 05:00 PM
Abstract Keywords: Documentation Burden, Informatics Implementation, Evaluation
Primary Track: Applications
Programmatic Theme: Clinical Informatics
Generative artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to transform clinical care delivery in multiple domains. In the near term, the most compelling use cases will allow clinicians to operate at the top of their licenses, streamlining work that was previously time consuming and liberating physicians from their keyboards. AI scribes are poised to revolutionize the medical record-keeping process by decreasing documentation burden, allowing physicians to focus on their patients rather than their keyboards, and potentially reducing physician burnout. Despite the tremendous potential, this technology is still largely experimental and deployment presents a set of unique challenges that must be overcome to realize their full potential.
This panel discussion aims to explore the multifaceted landscape of AI scribe selection, implementation, and evaluation, and longitudinal impact monitoring. The panel will comprise a group of experts in informatics and AI from diverse healthcare organizations sharing their experience through a combination of case studies and interactive dialogue. This session will examine the opportunities and challenges in vendor selection, electronic health record (EHR) integration, implementation strategies, and considerations when measuring value.
