Medical Informatics Beyond the Ivory Tower: Translation, Application, and Collaboration in the Pharmaceutical and the Life Science Industries
Presentation Time: 01:45 PM - 03:15 PM
Abstract Keywords: Bioinformatics, Drug Discoveries, Repurposing, and Side-effect, Real-World Evidence Generation, Pharmacogenomics, Informatics Implementation, Omics (genomics, metabolomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, etc.) and Integrative Analyses
Primary Track: Applications
Programmatic Theme: Translational Bioinformatics
Medical informatics (bioinformatics, clinical informatics, and health informatics) are important disciplines in the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries. Across the drug product development cycle (from molecule development to delivery of products to patients in communities) medical informatics research and theory are applied to advance drug discovery and promote access of innovative therapies. This panel discusses examples (not specific to a drug product) of how the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries collaborate to not only translate medical informatics theory and science, but also to apply medical informatics to solve real world problems that can alleviate human suffering. Career journeys of medical professionals in the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries are also discussed to illustrate scientific excellence in professional settings outside of academic institutions.
