PINA Endorsed Panel Clinical Informatics: Cost or Revenue Center? 4th in the Series CI – Pilot, Co-Pilot, or Revenue Center Passenger?
Presentation Time: 08:30 AM - 10:00 AM
Abstract Keywords: Informatics Implementation, Healthcare Economics/Cost of Care, Teaching Innovation
Primary Track: Foundations
Programmatic Theme: Clinical Informatics
Clinical informaticists serve organizations in a variety of roles from data scientists to Chief Medical/Health Information Officers. They have long faced challenges, however, in fully conveying the “return on investment” (ROI) from informatics initiatives. The abilities to foster ROI opportunities and to overcome the common perception among health system leaders that clinical informatics (CI) is purely a cost center, are essential skills that can empower CI within an institution, and potentially unlock often-constrained organizational resources. This panel is the 4th in a series entitled “Informatics: Cost or Revenue Center” aimed at equipping clinical informaticists with the skills needed to make the business case for resources to support CI efforts. Sponsored by the Physicians in AMIA group (PINA), this panel will dive into the details of unique partnership opportunities empowering CI as a revenue center. We will learn from CI leaders at 3 different health systems who are innovating on this model.
