Congress requested that the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) report on the current state of lab interoperability and propose possible solutions to further advance interoperability. This session will provide an overview of the key findings and proposed recommendations.
An analysis of “real world” laboratory data from diverse sources will be shared to provide insights on the use of laboratory standards. From the laboratory perspective, findings of interviews across a diverse array of labs will provide insights into potential enablers as well as barriers to lab interoperability. The panel will discuss ongoing efforts to improve lab interoperability through continued development of United States Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) and USCDI+ content to support laboratory data and public health interoperability. The session will end with an overview of possible policy and regulatory levers that have the potential to address the gaps identified and advance lab interoperability.
