Programmatic Theme: Clinical Research Informatics
In 2024, AHRQ will celebrate the 20-year anniversary of its Digital Healthcare Research (DHR) Program, which has funded critical research in areas such as patient safety, clinical decision support, telehealth, and patient reported outcomes. Several DHR Program grantees have also received the prestigious Morris F. Collen Award, the highest honor bestowed by the American College of Medical Informatics. This panel will provide the perspective of four Collen Awardees, who have also been AHRQ-funded researchers, on the impact of health services research funding on the field of biomedical and health informatics over the last twenty years and on where the most pressing research needs will be over the next twenty years. This will be an interactive discussion among the panelists and with the audience, covering topics such as generative artificial intelligence, clinician burden, community and patient engagement, scaling innovation to underserved settings, and training the next generation of informatics researchers.
