Advancing Women in Health Informatics: Tools, Tactics, and Transformational Leadership
Presentation Time: 02:00 PM - 03:15 PM
Abstract Keywords: Workforce Development, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility, Education and Training
Primary Track: Applications
While women comprise nearly a third of the STEM workforce, they are less visible in executive and decision-making positions.1 Despite substantial contributions to health informatics, women remain underrepresented in leadership roles within the field. In 2020, the Women in the American Medical Informatics Association (WIA) group developed a leadership program focused on developing a leader identity among women in health informatics and increasing networks within the field. The program also explored barriers such as implicit bias, limited mentorship opportunities, and structural inequities.2 The objective of this panel is to share evidence-based strategies to foster mentorship programs, leadership development initiatives, and organizational culture shifts within the field of health informatics. Attendees will leave with actionable insights to foster, encourage, facilitate, and nurture the development of women leaders in health informatics.
