Primary Track: Applications
Programmatic Theme: Translational Bioinformatics
The use of complementary and integrative health (CIH) approaches—such as acupuncture, mindfulness, and nutritional therapy—is growing across healthcare settings to support whole person health by addressing physical, social, environmental, and behavioral factors. However, key gaps remain in understanding the effectiveness, safety, and mechanisms of these therapies. Informatics methods, including natural language processing (NLP), ontologies, and knowledge graphs (KGs), offer powerful tools to integrate and analyze data from diverse sources. This panel will highlight foundational informatics research aimed at advancing CIH by improving data integration and generating new knowledge. Presenters will explore how combining clinical data, CIH approaches, and omics research (e.g., metagenomics, metabolomics) can support knowledge discovery and scientific validation of multimodal interventions. By synthesizing these data sources, informatics can help uncover the mechanisms that drive whole person health, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes and accelerating innovation in personalized, integrative care
