Presentation Type: Panel
AI Scribes 2.0: New Settings, New Clinician Types, New Capabilities
Presentation Time: 03:30 PM - 04:45 PM
Abstract Keywords: Artificial Intelligence, Documentation Burden, Informatics Implementation
Primary Track: Applications
Programmatic Theme: Clinical Informatics
Generative AI scribes have the potential to revolutionize clinical documentation by reducing administrative burden and allowing clinicians to focus more on patient care. While early implementations have demonstrated success among attending physicians in ambulatory settings, the next phase of AI scribes must go further – expanding into new care settings, integrating with a broader range of clinicians, and incorporating advanced capabilities beyond documentation.
This panel will explore the next evolution of AI scribes through three key dimensions: (1) Expansion into new care settings such as emergency departments and inpatient care, (2) Adoption by new clinician groups including residents, advanced practice providers (APPs), nurses, and allied health professionals (AHPs), and (3) The development of new features that extend beyond traditional documentation, such as automated flowsheet documentation, coding assistance, and clinical decision support. Panelists from leading institutions will share real-world insights, challenges, and strategies for evaluating, implementing, scaling, and informing the future development of AI scribes in these evolving domains.
