Association of UDCA with gastrointestinal cancer risk in PBC patients: a retrospective cohort study using a nationwide health research network
Presentation Time: 03:30 PM - 05:00 PM
Evidence has shown contradictory relationships between Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) use and cancer risk. In this study, we aim to investigate the potential association between UDCA use and gastrointestinal cancer risk using the nationwide health research network TriNetX. Specifically, we compared incidence of gastrointestinal cancer between two primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) patient cohorts, i.e., with or without UDCA use. Our results suggested that UDCA use is statistically associated with reduced gastrointestinal cancer outcome in PBC patients. This is the first nationwide electronic health record (EHR)-based cohort study to investigate the therapeutic benefit of UDCA in oncology, thus improving cancer prevention.
