New Indices to Track Interoperability Among U.S. Hospitals
Presentation Time: 03:00 PM - 03:15 PM
Abstract Keywords: Interoperability and Health Information Exchange, Health Equity, Patient Engagement and Preferences
Primary Track: Policy
Programmatic Theme: Clinical Informatics
Increasing healthcare organization interoperability has been a policy goal for more than a decade. We developed a robust, comprehensive, and continuous set of indices (Core Index, Core+ Index, and Friction Index) to measure hospital interoperability capabilities and practices guided by input from a technical expert panel. Our analysis highlights notable disparities in index performance based on hospital characteristics. The indices can be modified and followed longitudinally to facilitate policy evaluation and inform new policy opportunities.
