Presentation Type: Panel
Informatics Maturity at the Intersection of Artificial Intelligence, Ethics and Indigenous Data Governance
2025 Informatics Summit On Demand
Presentation Time: 01:30 PM - 03:00 PM
Abstract Keywords: Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues, Fairness and Disparity Research in Health Informatics, Machine Learning, Generative AI, and Predictive Modeling, Digital Research Enterprise, Implementation Science and Deployment
Working Group: Informatics Maturity Working Group
Primary Track: Data Science/Artificial Intelligence
Programmatic Theme: Health Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Innovation: From Single-Center to Multi-Site
Four seismic shifts are altering biomedical informatics research, and the implementation of informatics tools in healthcare: rising interest in and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI); increasing emphasis on ethics in informatics and AI; recognition of the need for inclusive approaches to data governance and in particular Indigenous Data Governance (IDG); and, increasing development and use of maturity models to assess and guide institutional informatics activities. As institutions and researchers seek to develop and adapt AI tools to the needs of to work with Indigenous and other historically marginalized groups, they will need to consider all four of these factors and the complex interactions among them. This panel will bring together presenters with experience in each of these four areas. Our goal stimulate discussion among the panel attendees to more clearly define the challenges and to set the stage for subsequent AMIA activities that can work toward solutions.
