Presentation Type: Workshop
Preparing an AI Ready Workforce: Policy, Practice, and Future Directions
Presentation Time: 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Abstract Keywords: Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Bridging Analytics, Bedside Care, Clinical Documentation, and Education, Interprofessional Collaboration, Learning Health System
Primary Track: AI and Care Outcomes
Programmatic Theme: Organizational Challenges
The successful integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in biomedical research and healthcare delivery hinges on a well-prepared workforce with the necessary technical and analytical skills. Communities of practice (CoPs) serve as vital platforms for workforce upskilling, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, peer learning, and the development of AI literacy among healthcare professionals, researchers, and operational leaders. By facilitating skill development, CoPs help professionals critically assess AI applications, mitigate biases, and ensure ethical and equitable implementation. Additionally, CoPs support the scaling of AI by sharing best practices, addressing adoption challenges, and advocating for policies that prioritize workforce readiness. Through these efforts, CoPs play a pivotal role in equipping healthcare professionals with the competencies needed to responsibly leverage AI, ultimately enhancing patient care and advancing biomedical research. This panel will explore the current state of such CoPs and their unique and critical role in enabling the efforts needed to prepare and support and AI-ready biomedical research and healthcare delivery workforce.
