This session explores the evolving landscape of nursing informatics, emphasizing the integration of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and predictive analytics, to enhance patient outcomes and streamline nursing workflows. Participants will engage in discussions on the challenges and opportunities associated with AI adoption, electronic health record (EHR) usability improvements, and nurse-led innovation to drive meaningful change. The session will also examine key insights from The Future of Nursing 2020-2030 report, providing a platform to assess progress and identify priority areas for future action. A literature review on AI in healthcare and the Future of Nursing 2020-2030 report informed the development of a structured discussion, focusing on the role of AI in redefining nursing, the necessary skills and resources to prepare nurses for technology-driven roles, and strategies to optimize EHR systems. Key discussion points will include AI’s impact on nursing practice, the need for data literacy and AI competency in nursing education, and practical approaches to addressing existing gaps in nursing informatics. By the end of the session, attendees will have a deeper understanding of nursing informatics’ role in healthcare transformation and be equipped with actionable strategies to improve workflow efficiency, reduce documentation burden, and enhance interoperability. As the field advances, nurse informaticians must lead the charge in developing patient-centered, technology-enabled solutions that empower the nursing workforce and support high-quality, data-driven patient care.
